Professional Background
Edward J. Valeau conducts searches for CEO positions in colleges and universities. He has been working in executive search since 2004. His experience includes conducting searches and facilitating interim placements for Vice Chancellors, Presidents, Vice Presidents, Academic Deans, and Managers across all functional areas. Previously, Dr. Valeau was Superintendent/ President of Hartnell Community College for twelve years, where he recruited and guided the entire districts’ senior, mid level searches and faculty hiring which enabled it to have one of the most diverse staffs in the California State Community Colleges.

During his college administrative career, Dr.Valeau served as the Superintendent President of Hartnell Community College, President of the College of Alameda, Dean of Instruction, Dean of the academic division: Language Arts and Learning Resources, and Associate Dean of Continuing Education. He served as the director of the Association of California Community College Mentor Program for a decade, which has the reputation of being one of the oldest, such programs of its kind in the country. The program has produced Chancellors, Superintendents/ Presidents, Vice Presidents and Deans, for service in the nation’s community colleges. Earlier in his career, Ed was the Associate Dean of Continuing Education, Director of a Multicultural In-service Training Institute, and Teacher consultant in multicultural education, vice principal and English teacher.

Dr. Valeau is a former member of the American Council on Education Commission on International Initiatives. As a former Director on the Board of the American Association of Community Colleges, he chaired the committee on Public Policy / Governmental Relations, Commission on Global Education, served on the Executive committee and represented the association at the Education Summit in Strasburg, France. Formerly Ed served as a board member on the Monterey Bay Community Foundation Board, and the Salinas Chamber of Commerce. He is a former board member of the Chief Executive Officers of California Community Colleges and President of the California Colleges for International Education.


Dr. Valeau is CEO and founder of Valeau International Associates. Ed is advisor to the Indian Center for Research and Development of Community Education, Madras Chennai, India and the Wuix Government of the Peoples Republic of China. Currently he is on the Board of Directors of Adams International University located in Atlanta, Georgia, the Northern California Chapter of the Fulbright Association and the Monterey Bay International Trade Association. He is the recipient of numerous awards, an ACE Fellow, Fulbright Scholar, and a California State University Monterey Bay Fellow. He has co-edited several books and articles and conducted research in higher education leadership, mentoring, and Boards of Trustees. He regularly presents at national and international conferences.

Professional Background

Ms. Savage is the partner in charge of contractual matters and technology for the firm.  In addition, she has led search assignments for many years.  She specializes in positions that deal with Student Services, Human Resources, and Chief Executive Officers (CEO).  Her experience includes conducting searches for higher education, Vice Chancellors, Presidents and Vice Presidents.  Ms. Savage provides consultants for interim engagements and special projects as well as personally performing requested services such as CEO evaluation, classification studies, and various human resources’ training.


Sallie A. Savage served as a Director of Human Resources in three California Community Colleges over 14 years, after she retired from the United States Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel.  Her experience is in successful recruiting and personnel management of a multicultural workforce. She has extensive experience in labor contract negotiations and labor management relations. She has performed in a professional human resources capacity for over 36 years, including six years as a Personnel Advisor to the Secretary of the Air Force.
